Some experiences lead to opportunities for student advocacy. For example, following a DT unit on “Tiny Homes” for urban sustainability, a group of students were invited by the Mayor to present their findings to the Del Mar City Council to advocate for an initiative proposed by the city council to build affordable tiny homes.
I choked up today when I saw and heard the many way the 2nd graders were thinking and talking about immigration, newcomers, and the diversity of people that makes up our community and country. Education done right can make a difference. There is so much hope for the future!
